Working with me is easy—and intentionally low-stress. Here’s what you can expect from the moment you reach out to the day you hit “send” on your next campaign:


Step 1: Discovery Call

We’ll start with a quick (and pressure-free) conversation to discuss your goals, timeline, and the type of copy you need. I’ll ask a few key questions, clarify deliverables, and let you know exactly what I’ll need from you to get started.


Step 2: Research & Planning

Once you’ve hired me, I’ll dig into the background. I’ll review any samples of past donor communications you can provide—especially your strongest and weakest performers. I’ll also ask for insight into your donor base: what motivates them, why they support your mission, and what makes your cause unique.

I also explore your website, social media, and any public-facing materials to ensure your messaging is consistent and on-brand.


Step 3: First Draft Delivery

When I have everything I need, I’ll typically turn around a first draft of direct mail or email copy within one week. Case statements and more complex projects take a little longer—but I’ll always give you a realistic timeline upfront.

Need something faster? I offer rush services (based on availability) for an additional 25%.


Step 4: Revisions

Once you’ve had a chance to review the draft, you can request changes, big or small. I’ll revise the copy and give you a new delivery date for the next version. I rewrite until you’re happy—simple as that.

Not sure why I wrote something a certain way? Just ask. I’m happy to explain the thinking behind any phrase or strategy. The better you understand the “why,” the stronger your future communications will be.


Step 5: Final Delivery & Beyond

You’ll receive a polished final draft in the format that works best for you—Google Docs, Word, or pasted into an email for quick use. If you need help planning how to follow up with donors after the campaign, just ask. I’m glad to offer advice (free of charge) on how to keep the momentum going.


A Word About Communication

I work primarily via email and usually respond the same day. I’m also available by phone if that’s your preference—or if the matter is time-sensitive. My goal is always to make the process smooth, professional, and as collaborative as you’d like it to be.
